Review

I am not one of those that gets sentimental about the closing of a year. Goodbye 2010 and hello 2011! It doesn't hurt though, to take a quick peek back at some of my favorite-est flowers that went out over the last 12 months though, does it? (Noooooo!)

Cold January. I have decided this year not to make any resolutions as I completely stank at keeping them. I will say over and over again to myself one of them that I mentioned last year, and that is, "Three things in human life are important. The first is to be kind. The second is to be kind. And the third is to be kind." (Henry James) A mantra if not a resolution. Maybe I won't stink at a mantra.

February. One of the people I love the very most in the world turned 40. If I can be as beautiful and fun and young at heart as she is...well then I will look this October straight in the eyes and say confidently to myself- if not to the rest of the world, "Come on 40...come and get me."

March marked as always, my longing to get in the garden and get dirty. I am already having small fantasies about the Martha Stewart Living special gardening issue that comes out in March. (Sad? Maybe a little....)

April. Oh the bulbs that started to poke their heads up out of the earth! April, "the cruelest month of all" that begins to give us all hope that spring really might be just around the corner....

May I loved you for your warmth and color and for my two little boys who love me and tell me so even if I don't force them to. And the promise, the hint- that summer is actually, almost, right about here.

June was all about the outdoor containers for me. Oh to be outside! I look at all of my dearly departed containers now and all the time I could (should) have spent weeding, and trimming and pruning...whew, I'm glad I started out by saying I don't get sentimental...regretful?

July let me in on a beautiful, sweet wedding. I am so grateful for the people I get to meet and to work with. It fuels my fire to work harder on making my "little shop of dreams" into a big reality. I try not to feel sorry for myself that it hasn't happened yet...I just try to believe it will. And eating Ben & Jerry's Karmel Sutra ice cream really does assuage the pity and promote that yes I can attitude. Really. It does.

August put me together with a Susan G. Komen for the Cure benefit dinner. Amidst all of the pink, I realized how grateful I am to be healthy...and was reminded how strong women are. Picked also turned one in August, and I am- as always- amazed at how quickly time travels and delighted that you spend some of your time with me and my ramblings. (And dreamings and wantings and jokings and inspirings and....)

September, sweet September and a little wedding dressed in pinks and purples. (And monster dahlias...hello, I adore you....) Ezra, my biggest boy, had his first day of school.

October, my favorite month celebrated Mr. Blue and I saying I do, pumpkins, and me turning 39.

November was a whirl of a robot birthday, things to be thankful for and fooooooood.

December brought gifts and friends and fun. And now the year is done. (Ha...if you read yesterday, I couldn't resist just...ONE!) And hello to this year, who knows what is out there, as my dear paper friend Anne, (of Green Gables) would say, "Who knows what lies after the bend in the road?" Indeed. I can't wait to find out. And am so glad you are with me to share.
