Ruby Tuesday

A bridal bouquet to celebrate 40 years of marriage. 40 years!! Don't you think that that is amazing? I do!
(Ha ha!)

40 is the ruby anniversary- so while trying to honor her original bouquet (slightly modernized) with white spray roses and stephanotis- I also added dark red hypericum berry and deep wine colored scabiosa. There are also white ranunculus and some pretty dark redish leaves I snipped from an obliging neighborhood tree. (Shhh...don't tell.)

Stephanotis is just one of those flowers that are so nostalgic. Kind of like a gardenia- once you smell it, you immediately are transported back to the first time that you smelled it- and will always associate that party, or wedding or special event with that smell. My mother was here when I was cleaning the flowers- and you could smell the stephanotis all over the house, and she got that faraway look in her eye -for just a moment as she told me how much she loves that scent.

The Groom's boutonniere. The English call them button-holes, I quite like that. (And its soooo much easier to spell!)

40 years. Being just around that age myself (but not quite...) its all at once hard and easy to imagine being married for that length of time. Do they look back and wonder where all of the time has gone? Do they still look at each other like newlyweds? Do they find time to giggle, snuggle, give smooches on the sly? Did having a party with some of their original wedding guests bring back some of the love and excitement that they felt 40 years ago? Oh, I hope so. I think so. Congratulations...here's to 40 more.
